Free Khasiem and Support his Right to Heal.

My medically ill son has been in solitary confinement (23 hours per day) without proper medical attention for 3 months at  Bucks County Correctional Facility (BCCF) He is being unjustly penalized and criminalized for actions that were medically drug induced. His mental and physical conditions are seriously deteriorating under these harsh conditions
My son’s medical condition
My son, Khasiem Carr, has a colostomy. It is a surgical procedure in which a stoma is formed by drawing the healthy end of the large intestine or colon through an incision in the anterior abdominal wall and suturing it into place. This opening, in conjunction with the attached stoma appliance, provides an alternative channel for feces to leave the body. It is reversible.
My son can suffer irreversible damage due to the fact that he is not able to wash the stoma on a daily basis and he is unable to exercise at least 3 to 4 hours per day because he is confined to a cell 23 hours a day. BCCF is doing the best they can to accommodate him, but his medical and mental condition are seriously deteriorating under these harsh conditions…read more about the injustice of his incarceration on the back…
Why my son is in jail Part 1
Extreme Clozaril side effects and withdrawal effects
My 29 year old son has never had a criminal record in his entire life until now. He is a caring compassionate, bright and witty human being. He has had some struggle with symptoms of mental illness, and he was under the care of a psychiatrist, who was tapering him off of clozaril/clozapine, a highly addictive and dangerous psychotic drug. Research has proven that withdrawal from the anti-psychotic clozaril/clozapine can cause a psychosis that is worse than the original psychosis. Lower Bucks Hospital put my son on this drug without telling him or me what they were doing; they are required by law to give and receive fully informed consent.  The clozaril caused my son to gain over 100 pounds, and he was becoming a diabetic.  After his release, Dr. Greenfield of Lenape Valley tried to help my son by tapering him off the clozaril; unfortunately my son had a very adverse reaction to even titrated tapering; he began experiencing intensive anxiety, restlessness and extreme paranoia.
Why my son is in jail Part 2
Hospital ignores warning,
administers drug that my son is allergic to
My son voluntarily committed himself at Grandview Hospital because he was in such mental and emotional distress from the withdrawal, and they sent him to Belmont Hospital.   When he was admitted, I specifically told the staff at Belmont Hospital that my son was allergic to Haldol and DO NOT administer that drug to him. Despite my warning, they administered a Haldol injection to my son and he then experienced drug induced episodes of violence. The next day the hospital called and told me to come and get him or they would send him to jail. They did not admit to injecting him with Haldol, but indeed it was in the medical records that I later retrieved.  I took him home, but he was still in that spell binding state of drug induced violence and so again we sought help through a second mental health hospital, Jefferson. Due to his drug induced violent state, they were not willing to try  and help him and they too called after the second day and threatened to send him to jail if I did not come and get him immediately.
First poisoned, then abandoned, my son is criminalized, instead of the medical institutions
With no place to turn, I brought him home and within a few days he had kicked in the neighbor’s door. When the police arrived I shared the story of the hospitals injection of a drug that was known to be toxic to my son and begged them to take him to a hospital.  Instead, they read him his rights and took him to jail. I then warned the police of his medicated violent state and asked them to take the necessary precautions so that he would not hurt anyone else.  They ignored this warning and at the jail took off his handcuffs with others standing around. He immediately struck a court staff person and two officers.  He was then charged with aggravated assault and placed in solitary confinement for two months without treatment.  He was declared incompetent to stand trial and was sent to Norristown State Hospital to restore competency. He was returned to jail on May 9, 2012 and has been in solitary confinement since then. His trial date to face criminal charges is Monday August 27, 2012.
